About the Book

This six volume set explores the interface between psychology and religion, looking at aspects of religious belief and mysticism as related to the study of human consciousness. The titles Hindu Psychology (1948) and Indian Psychology (1934) look at the relevance of Hindu belief systems and theories of perception for the West. The Psychology of Religious Mysticism (1925) takes a fascinating look at various types of mysticism, the relationship between famous mystics and hysterical symptoms, ecstacy, trance states and the sense of presence and the divine. Religious Conversion (1927) looks at the nature and causes of conversion, and behaviour of converts. Isaac and Oedipus (1954) is a religious-psychological study of the father-son relationship, re-evaluating the Oedipus complex through the study of the Sacrifice of Isaac. Man and his Relationships (1955) is an edited volume looking at the diversity in experience with human existence and advocating the need for communication between specialist academic fields.
